A reader sent me a link to your Tithe Test which I found fascinating.
Like "End Times Theology" this appears to be a modern interpretation of scriptures - an interpretation made to advance the ends of Church leaders.
It is sad, but many people tithe huge amounts of money on the premise that God will "pay them back". But God has no use for money.
One lady, on a "get out of debt" site, wrote that she couldn't understand why her credit card debt kept increasing. "After all, I am tithing $850 a month!"
Here's a clue: Jesus isn't going to pay off your credit card. And God wants you to be happy and debt-free and take care of your family - not send all your income off to some smarmy pastor and "new" church.
But, alas, it is hard to get that message through to most folks. They believe what they want to believe - or are told to believe.
